When you see what you need to get done today, you can easily become overwhelmed and resort to just scrolling on your phone instead of doing anything. This has happened to me so many times. This is called ADHD paralysis, the feeling when you know you need to get something done or even WANT to get something done, but you can’t get yourself to do it. This affects me all the time. Today I’m going to share what I do to combat this.
Plan, Plan, Plan
1st, write down what you need to do and when, if applicable. For example:
* Go to art class (1:30 pm)
* Math Assignment
*Blog post
*Laundry
After this, look over what the actual task is and do the hardest one first. Leave the easiest for last. If you leave the hardest for last, you will dread it all day, which will make the paralysis worse
2nd, I plan a reward for myself if I do the task(s) I need today. For example, today I knew I needed to write this BLOG post, go to my art class, and do my math assignment. The reward for if I do these things today is playing Stardew Valley with my boyfreind after wards. Now it’s also important to make backup plans when involving others in your rewards. If my boyfriend is busy or doesn’t want to play today, I will play Spatoon 3 or Animal Crossing instead!
Little rewards between each task is a great idea as well. Examples could be a little snack, a water break, a warm shower ect. But never have the little reward be a few minutes on a game, that is hard to keep your self acountable on. I’ve put myself in that trap so many times, and have regretted logging onto my game every single time.
There isnt many sure-fire ways to combat ADHD paralysis; you have to figure out what works for you. This is what works for me. If what I do helps you out, then great! If not, keep on trying! Don’t give up! You’ve got this!
